To say that Raina was misguided might be something of an understatement. Like many members of the family, she didn’t have the best home life. She grew up on the streets until she was taken in by a doctor.

This doctor expected perfection; from Raina, from himself, from everything around him. And he was the cause of her obsession with making herself better. With evolving. She didn’t inject Grant with the serum to hurt him; she did so because she was trying to find the next stage in mankind’s evolution.

Having failed to get the results she needed from injecting others, Raina chose to inject herself with the serum, giving her very similar symptoms to those that Grant had.

In a situation similar to the one with Grant, Coulson’s decision to adopt Raina came from taking care of her as she suffered through the after-effects of the serum.

Raina is a bit more reserved than Coulson’s other children. She’s not open to big displays of affection, even though she does accept them.

In comparison to most of the others’ rooms in the compound, Raina’s doesn’t have so much in the way of personal items. But her room is comfortable and inviting, more like a ‘farmhouse’ room.

Most of the time, when Raina gets in trouble, it’s to do with experiments she shouldn’t be running. As she’s quiet and more reserved, she doesn’t ‘need’ in the same way that some of her siblings might.
