He'd gone through hell and come out the other side a changed man. Anyone would have. How could he continue blithely through life just indulging his own whims while ignoring what the company bearing his name was doing? Now that he knew that his weapons were hurting those they were meant to help; now that he knew the truth about Obie.

Of course, doing it the easy way, the legal way, hadn't worked. He'd attempted to shut down weapons production, using the excuse he wanted to investigate how his weapons ended up in the wrong hands, but the board and Obie had blocked that, effectively locking him out of any decision making and turning him into a figurehead in his own company. They'd claimed he was suffering PTSD from what had happened to him (and they were right; he was) and that he wasn't capable of making sound decisions because of it.

Unable to make the needed changes from the inside and unable to find the proof that would expose Obie as the backstabbing traitor he was (to both Tony and the country), Tony felt he had no choice. He'd have to take everything down from the outside and expose Obie that way. But... he had to do it without people knowing it was him. Otherwise, Obie would find a way to stop it.

He'd never thought he'd put on the armor again once he'd escaped the desert. But now, he was wearing a new and improved version of it, powered by the battery in his chest. (And he was very glad he hadn't told anyone about that battery). He was hitting the third Stark Industries site in as many days, making sure every bit of information on that particular plant's shady dealings was exposed for everyone to see. Obie couldn't do his shady dealings without having underlings doing his bidding, after all. And the best thing? Tony had been publicly shut out of his own company, so no one could say he had any part in the shady dealings.

As soon as the last machine had been blown up and the weapons stored there made into so much garbage, Tony looked at the smoking ruins. "Everyone make it out, JARVIS?"

"There were no casualties, sir. Only a few minor wounds from people panicking," his AI responded.

"Good. I'm heading home. Make sure I'm not seen," Tony directed, before shooting up into the sky.

The next morning, he watched the news with a smirk as Iron Man was portrayed as a villain taking vengeance on an upstanding business. Eventually, all the evidence he uncovered would be discovered by those who could do something about it. Until then... he'd rain down hell.

***

SHIELD had come a long way since it had first been founded and Fury himself had initially joined it, discovering the Skrulls and the Kree and giving his word to help the Skrulls find a home. And he'd been doing his best to do that, taking care of the search here on Earth while Carol led the search from the stars.

Goose lay curled up in her basket in one corner of his office. She'd already lived much longer than an ordinary Earth cat would...and had shown no signs of slowing down any time soon. She'd had a litter of kittens who had gone to agents that Fury could trust, since he couldn't know if her litter were Flerkins as well.

Sighing, Fury found his attention drawn to the news. Iron Man, that's what this villain was being called by the reporters. The target? The companies of the billionaire playboy, Tony Stark...though according to all accounts, Stark had been shut out from his weapons manufacturers. Of course, that didn't mean that whoever this Iron Man was didn't have a personal vendetta against Stark. In fact, it would be more surprising if he didn't have a vendetta against the billionaire.

Shaking his head, Fury turned off the news, noticing that Goose had perked her ears up. "I'm not getting anywhere on this Avengers initiative," he said to her. "I might as well investigate Iron Man and his grudge against Stark Industries."

Goose meowed and stood up, padding towards the door of his office and waiting.

Fury snorted softly. "You're going to come as well, are you? I don't think we'll be facing any bad guys, but I'll get you some treats later," he promised, as he opened the door and stepped out of his office.

It wasn't long before he was in his car and driving towards Stark's current location, Goose safely strapped in her carrier in the seat next to him.

***

"Yeah, Rhodey. I'm doing fine. Yeah, sure... Being shut out of my own company sucks, especially as they seem to think they can still expect me to work on ideas for them to exploit... But I'm doing fine. Whoever this Iron Man is, he's kept his attacks on the factories and hasn't hurt any people. I haven't heard or seen anything suggesting I'm in danger...." He blinked as JARVIS sent him a message that he was about to have company. "I've gotta go, Rhodey-bear. Someone is driving up the private drive...." Tony quickly said goodbye to his oldest friend and hung up the phone. "Nothing incriminating where it can be seen, JAR?"

"No, sir. Everything is safely out of sight," the AI answered. Two minutes later, he heard a car door slam and moved toward the door.

Fury had let Goose out of her carrier and she padded alongside him as he headed towards the front door. Just before he raised his hand to knock, he looked down at the Flerkin. "Be good and I'll buy you your favourite treats once we're done here."

Immediately, Goose sat back on her haunches and began washing herself, looking just as innocent as any Earth cat could.

Tony was on the other side of the door, pacing. He was torn between wanting to rip the door open to demand what the person on the other side wanted from him...and wanting to go hide and pretend he wasn't home. JARVIS had given him all the information he could find on the man on the other side of the door...which- despite it being JARVIS looking for the information- there wasn't much. Which meant the other man was probably a spy of some sort. A thrill of excitement went through him at the thought. Could he keep his secrets while getting information from the other man? It would be a daunting challenge. But Tony liked challenges.

Waiting just long enough for the man to raise his hand to knock, Tony yanked the door open in the hopes of startling him enough that it would give Tony an advantage....and was promptly startled himself when he saw a cat sitting on his doormat, calm and pretty as you please. "Uh... It isn't my cat. Even though it's nice of you to ask me..." he said in confusion, as he stared at the cat.

"No. She's my cat," Fury said, appearing completely calm and not startled in the slightest by Tony suddenly opening the door. "I'm Fury," he added. "I'm the director of SHIELD. I noticed on the news that your weapons companies are being hit by this Iron Man. No one's been hurt yet, at least not seriously, but I'm hoping to prevent there being any casualties. Can I come in?"

Tony blinked again and looked up at Fury, a bit irritated with himself that he had got distracted by a cat, of all things. Fury's words filtered through to his brain enough for him to realize he'd been right about Fury being a spy. "SHIELD?" he said inanely. Shaking his head, he stepped back to allow Fury entrance, trusting JARVIS to keep his secrets hidden. "If you've been watching the news, you'll know I've been removed from having any control over what is done in my company..." he said, allowing a little of the bitterness he felt to leak out. "Not sure how I can help with your worries or concerns." He led Fury into the living room, noting the cat following behind like a trained dog.

"I'm aware," Fury answered, his voice calm and not giving away even a hint of what he thought about it, or what he thought about Tony Stark having been involved in so many weapon manufacturing companies, even if he wasn't any longer. "But whoever this Iron Man is might not care that you've been removed from the company. He, or she, could be targeting your companies in an attempt to hurt you. I thought I'd come and see if you had any idea of which of your enemies might be capable of actions like this." He didn't bother mincing words. Tony Stark had enemies. There was no sense in sugar coating that fact.

Tony's eyes widened in surprise at the concern... Very few people actually cared enough about him as a person. He was only someone to tolerate so that they could get access to his money or connections. He warmed up to Fury, despite himself. "Any enemies I have wouldn't go after the company now that I'm gone. Not in this way, anyhow. They'd be more likely to attempt a hostile takeover, and they wouldn't want to destroy the merchandise before getting it in their possession." He shrugged. "It's more likely someone whose life was messed up by the weapons and are mad that the company is still allowed to manufacture them, despite evidence the weapons were given to the wrong people." This time, his bitterness was on full display. "I did try to do something about that, but... Well. I'm lucky I wasn't checked into a facility for mental health...." He stood and walked to his bar. "Drink?" He held up a bottle of bourbon.

"No. Thank you for the offer, though." Fury left unsaid that he didn't like to drink while he was working...didn't really drink all that much outside it, either. He preferred to keep his mind in shape as much as his body. "Do you have any information about people affected by the weapons?" he asked. "I can have a look into their backgrounds...see if any of them are capable of the kind of abilities Iron Man is showing."

"Sadly, no," Tony responded. He truly was sad about that. If he could find out who had been negatively affected by Obie's double dealing, he could have attempted restitution, even if he couldn't prove anything to regain control of his company and have Obie arrested. "I... I have some old files I was looking into, before they decided I was too much of a risk and removed me from my company. If you could get access to them, maybe they would have some information?" Tony suggested. Plus, if they found something that would stop Obadiah, it would be easier to retake his company and then fix things the right way.

Fury nodded. "It's a step in the right direction. Hopefully," he added, since they couldn't be sure of anything. "How complicated is it going to be for me to get access to them?" he asked, not sure if Tony had the files here, or if they were in one of the buildings no longer under his control. The latter would be more difficult for him to get to...but Goose could get into places better than Fury could, and she was willing to do things for him...at least most of the time.

"They are on the server of Stark Industries. Not hard to find, if you know what you are looking for. I can't get them because they watch me like a hawk whenever I'm on premises..." Tony grimaced. Thinking about it, he quickly pulled a StarkPad off the table nearby and opened it up, doing something Fury couldn't see. He then handed the tablet to Fury. "This is yours now. You can set up your password, etc. A detailed list of what you need to look for is in the notepad."

"Thank you." Fury took the pad from Tony, quickly setting it up with his own password before he glanced through the list. "They won't realise I'm working with you. I'll head to Stark Industries to ask them about this Iron Man. It would have been my next step anyway, after talking to you, so it shouldn't raise any suspicion."

Tony nodded. "Yeah. Thanks for coming by and letting me know. If there was a reason to worry, you're the first to check on me and make sure I'm okay...." If Tony had been having any second thoughts about his actions, the complete lack of concern for him by any of those who had stolen his company from him made it go away.

"No one else has been here to check on you?" Fury asked, surprised. Maybe he shouldn't be surprised. After all, Tony's reputation didn't lend itself well to a lot of friends and people to care about him. Still. Fury felt a stab of empathy towards the younger man.

"Only people worried about me are my best friend from college and my personal assistant. And they were worried before this Iron Man showed up..." Tony's smile was crooked. "Rhodey called right before you got here and Ms. Potts has to be careful, or they may think she is too loyal to me and fire her. I told her not to worry and not to call me direct unless it is an emergency. She calls Rhodey to find out how I am. I think they might be dating..." He wrinkled his nose cutely as the thought occurred to him.

"Well." Fury turned the pad over in his hands and then looked up at Tony, giving him a small smile. "You have a third person worrying about you now. If you're okay with a near stranger doing so."

Tony's smile was soft and genuine and his eyes crinkled in pleasure at the words. "I could get used to it. Maybe even make it so you aren't a stranger....' He added the last on hesitantly. Most people only tolerated him, not really liking him. He knew he was difficult to care about. His own father disliked being around him, after all.

"We can do that," Fury agreed. "I'd like to do that." He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting when he'd come here...but interacting with Tony, the younger man was more likable than Fury had been expecting him to be.

Goose apparently agreed with Fury's assessment, because she'd moved over to Tony and was rubbing against his legs, purring softly.

Tony grinned before leaning over and petting the cat. "Maybe you could come by later this week? Lunch time? Say... Friday? If kitty wants to come, I'll have fish...."

Goose's ears perked up and she meowed.

Fury's smile turned into a full grin. "I think that's a yes. From both of us," he added. "Her name's Goose," he added, figuring it was best to introduce her if they were going to be spending more time with Tony.

"Hello, Goose, I'm pleased to meet you. I should probably introduce you to my helper... JARVIS? Say hello to Director Fury and Goose."

"Hello! It is always good to meet someone who will help me keep Sir out of trouble..." the AI sassed.

"Oh? Is that a common occurrence?" Fury asked.

"More than I am happy with," the AI said drolly.

"Now, JARVIS... I just met him. Not nice telling him stuff like that! You might scare him off..." Tony joked.

"Not much is going to scare me off," Fury said dryly. "I've seen a lot since I joined SHIELD."

"Yeah. I bet. I'm not unfamiliar with SHIELD. Aunt Peggy and dad spent hours locked away in his office for super secret stuff I wasn't supposed to know about..." Tony huffed softly. "Somehow doubt I'd be able to sneak around you as easily...." He winked.

"You can certainly try," Fury commented, more than a hint of amusement creeping into his voice. "But I wouldn't recommend it."

"Of course..." Tony smiled again. No way would he admit to using some of SHIELD's information to pick his targets.

"Thank you for this." Fury indicated the StarkPad. "I'll keep you in the loop about anything I find," he promised.

"Thank you for checking on me. It's good to know someone was worried..." he said honestly. Even if there was no need to worry, that Fury had, felt good.

Fury nodded. "I'll give you my cell number. In case anything happens, or you want to talk to someone before we meet on Friday."

"Thank you..." Tony smiled again. "I will look forward to Friday."

Fury told Tony his number and then leaned down to pick up Goose. "Don't worry about waking me up if you need to. Even if it's the middle of the night and you just want to talk. I don't sleep much."

"Really? That's... Yeah. I'll think of you if I need to talk. Thank you..." Tony walked with them to the door.

Fury nodded. "Don't be afraid to reach out."

Goose meowed, as if she was voicing an agreement.

"I won't. If I can help with anything..." Tony offered.

"I'll let you know," Fury promised, before stepping out of the building and heading towards his car.

Tony watched as they got into the car and drove away. "Is it too soon to say I'm in love, JARVIS? It feels like it is too soon..." Tony said, as he shut the door.

"Probably, sir. Are you still planning to go to the plant in Spain? Or will you wait?" The AI was droll.

"Do it tonight. That way, if I need to recuperate before Friday, I have time..." Tony began to walk to his lab, making plans for his next Iron Man excursion.

*****

Fury had gone to Stark Industries, as he'd promised Tony he would. Unsurprisingly, the people now in charge had been closed-mouthed about who might be responsible for Iron Man, although a few ominous comments had made Fury concerned that someone high up in the organisation had plans to deal with whoever Iron Man was. And, yes, Iron Man was a villain...but his targets had been the weapons and the facilities, not the people. Fury didn't think he needed to be taken out of the picture entirely, although those feelings might change once he learned more.

The trip hadn't been entirely unproductive. Thanks to a handy distraction provided by Goose (honestly, she was better backup than many of the human agents), Fury had managed to get to the server and copy the files onto a USB stick. He'd also made sure not to leave a single trace of his presence behind.

After returning to the SHIELD offices, Fury settled in and then sent a quick message to Tony...letting him know he'd managed to get hold of the files. They could always go through them when they met on Friday.

****

It was several weeks later. Tony had not only met with Fury that Friday and exchanged information, or at least information that wouldn't get Fury fired and Tony arrested, but they'd taken to meeting for lunch nearly every day. And a few dinners late at night when Fury was ending a particularly long day. Somehow, despite all the time spent together, Tony had kept his secret. Which he was grateful for, but felt guilty about at the same time. Fury was spending a lot of time trying to apprehend Iron Man. Tony was very worried that if he found out the truth, he'd never want to see him again. He refused to entertain the notion of when Fury found out, because that meant his time was limited. And he'd fallen in love with the gruff older man.

***

Fury's search for Iron Man had proven to be fruitless...although he had no plans to give up on it. He was due to take some vacation time, though, and was left with the unique situation of actually having someone he wanted to spend time with.

"What do you think?" Fury asked Goose out loud. "Shall I call and see if he wants to take a vacation with me?"

Goose meowed. She'd decided she liked Tony as much as she liked Fury...helped along by the fact that Tony always made sure there was plenty of fish and treats for her.

Fury snorted softly. "Okay, I know what you think." He scrolled to Tony's number on his phone and pressed the Call button, then put it to his ear.

When Tony saw the ID on his phone, he quickly answered. "Hey... If it isn't my favorite pirate! What can I do for you?" he teased gently.

"It turns out I've accumulated some vacation time. And the agents are getting nervous that I'm not taking any." Fury cleared his throat slightly. "What do you think about maybe going away somewhere together?" he asked, uncharacteristically nervous. He liked Tony...loved the younger man by this point. But they hadn't reached the stage of telling each other yet. And he couldn't be completely sure how Tony felt about him.

Tony blinked, a feeling of giddy joy overcoming him for a few seconds and he blurted, "Yes! I'll go with you!" before he fully thought through the decision. There was a warehouse; not officially connected to Stark Industries, but that Obie was using to funnel the contraband Stark weapons through. If he destroyed that warehouse, it could cripple Obie's operation a great deal. The only problem was, it tended to move locations every few months. If he didn't take it down within the next two weeks, he'd miss his chance and have to hunt it down again. But he'd just agreed to go on vacation with Nick and... he didn't want to give that up. He'd figure something out. Somehow.

"That's great." Fury's voice was warm and happy. Filled with affection. "Is there anywhere in particular you'd like to go?" he asked. "If we need to buy tickets, I can take care of that now."

"You know what? Pick a place you like and surprise me. Just... Tell me how to pack. As long as I can be with you..." Tony sounded very happy. And excited.

"I'll do that. I'm really looking forward to being with you as well." Fury's voice wasn't loud, but it was very sincere. If they'd been talking in person, he might even have said the words then. I love you. But that confession felt too important to say over the phone.

"I am too. I'm glad you called... Asked..." Tony admitted.

"Do you still want to meet for dinner tonight?" Fury asked. "I was planning to take you to my favourite restaurant."

"You better believe it. The only time I enjoy eating is when I'm with you," Tony admitted.

"I'm glad to hear I help you enjoy eating," Fury commented. "Perhaps we can figure out a way for you to enjoy it even when I'm not there."

"That would be a miracle... But I look forward to seeing you try..." Tony teased.

"I'm sure I can come up with something," Fury replied dryly. "I'll see you after work."

"Looking forward to it..." Tony said, affection in his tone. Once he hung up, he sighed softly. "Did I just make a huge miscalculation, J? It's gonna be hard doing what I need if we are together all day, every day."

"I haven't seen you so happy in years, Sir. Not true happiness that carries in your voice and shines through your eyes.  Perhaps it is time to rethink your goals as far as Iron Man is concerned?" the AI offered seriously.

"I... I can't, J. Not till I know the weapons I designed can't to be used by the bad guys... But after... Definitely." Tony sighed. "Remind me when it is time to clean up and get ready...."

"I will, Sir."

*****

Fury ended up leaving work early, getting dressed up for his date with Tony. He couldn't take Goose with him, but made sure she had plenty of food and water...and gave her a few treats, although he couldn't help joking, "You're going to get fat if you keep eating like this."

Goose just yawned and began to eat daintily.

Snorting softly, Fury headed out of his apartment and to his car. He drove to Tony's place and then parked, getting out and walking towards the front door to knock.

The door opened to allow Fury entrance. "Welcome, Sir... Sir will be here momentarily. He is putting on his shoes..." JARVIS spoke to him.

"Thank you, JARVIS," Fury replied, stepping inside to wait for Tony.

Three minutes later, Tony bound into the room, tying his tie. "You're early!" He sounded like an excited five year old

Fury smiled at the sight of the younger man. "I didn't want to wait any longer," he admitted quietly, reaching out to wrap his arms around Tony in a tight hug.

Tony's eyes widened at the unexpected affection and he melted into the embrace, letting his own arms wrap around Nick and holding tight. He'd always hated how short he was...but now? His height allowed him to fit against Fury perfectly, head tucked under the taller man's chin. It felt safe and wonderful. "Glad you came early. This is nice...."

"It is," Fury agreed. "I missed you." Saying the words made him feel sappy, but they were true. He'd come early because he missed Tony. Because he wanted to see the other man. Because he loved Tony...although he didn't say the words. Not yet. They had to come at the right time. Which was one of the main reasons he'd arranged for them to go out tonight.

"I know the feeling..." Tony said in a soft voice, a goofy grin on his face. "I've been looking forward to this since you asked me...."

Fury smiled. "Good. I'm glad." He held Tony for a few more minutes before asking, "Did you need to grab anything else? Or are you ready to go?"

"I've got everything. You want to drive my car?" He held the keys out to Fury. Not very many passed up a chance to drive one of his cars.

Fury smiled and took the keys. "Which one are we taking?"

"The Vette... It's a classic..." Tony grinned, leading Fury to the garage.

"I like that one." Fury walked close to Tony, allowing his hip to brush gently against the other man's.

"Yeah... You'll enjoy driving it..." Tony grinned, shifting so their bodies continued to brush gently.

Fury smiled and reached out, taking Tony's hand and holding it. He only let go when they reached the car and had to get in.

Tony went to the passenger side of the car and got in. He waited until Fury was safely buckled in and starting the car before he began to talk again, just quietly watching the older man with a besotted look.

Fury began driving, smiling at Tony, clearly happy and relaxed in the younger man's presence. "What did you do today?" he asked softly.

"Tinkered around..." Tony put as generic a term as he could think of on the actual act of repairing his Iron Man and armor. "Now that I don't go into the company anymore..." He shrugged. Even if it was nice to be free to work on his own projects, he missed brainstorming with the science division.

Fury nodded, driving in silence for a few minutes before he said, "You know...I was thinking. If you wanted, there's an awful lot you could do to help out SHIELD."

Tony had a momentary internal panic at the offer. He had too much to take care of, stopping Obie and the others...and he was certain he'd never be able to hide his activities if he was working for Fury. As tempting as it was to do so. His boyfriend would likely dump his ass in the nearest prison if he found out and no longer want to be his boyfriend. Was Fury his boyfriend? "Are we boyfriends?" he blurted, then blushed dark as he realized how pre-teen that sounded. He was a freaking adult with an adult reputation. He shouldn't be sounding like a giddy, nervous pre-teen.

Fury blinked at the question, but answered honestly. "Yes. At least, I consider that we are. Spending time with you makes me happy. Happier than I've been in a long time." He parked the car outside the restaurant and turned to Tony, as serious as he'd ever been. "I love you."

Tony's eyes widened at the words, panic trilling through him again. "I... I love you too," he said, realizing that it was the truth. Which made what he was doing so much more horrible, even if he felt it needed to be done. How had he let this happen? After this last job he had planned...he'd quit. Retire Iron Man. If it went the way he was hoping, he wouldn't need to continue anyway. Obie would be exposed.

Fury smiled at the words and reached out, pulling Tony into a chaste kiss; which was more because they had a reservation to get to than because he wanted to take things slowly.

Tony returned the kiss, just as chastely. "I'm looking forward to tonight. To our vacation."

Fury's smile grew a bit wider. "You asked me what to pack...pack for hot weather. I'd also suggest packing swimming trunks, too," he added.

"Oh, that sounds promising!" Tony grinned.

"I'm glad you're excited about it." Fury gently ran his hands down Tony's arns and then slowly let go, so that they could get out of the car.

Tony sighed internally, then got out of the car.

After they got out of the car, Fury reached out to take Tony's hand so they could go into the restaurant.

Tony looked to where they were going and approved. It wasn't one of the spots he went when he wanted to be noticed. It was where he went when he wanted quiet and to remain unseen.

Fury led Tony into the restaurant and gave the hostess the name the reservation was under: his own, not Tony's. Then, the two of them followed the hostess to their table.

****

Later that night, Tony lay in bed, asking himself what he was doing. He loved Nick Fury. But he was keeping a huge secret and the man was the spy of spies. When Nick found out the truth.... Tony should end it while he still could. But he didn't want to. Even if it meant a whole lot of pain coming his way, he was going to hold on as long as humanly possible. And wish he had met Nick before he started down this road, because he didn't know how to get out.

***

After finishing their date, Fury had finalised the details for their vacation away and then got an early night, Goose curled up on his chest.

He woke up fairly early and began making breakfast, sending a quick message to Tony as soon as he thought the younger man would be awake. Once his boyfriend was ready, Fury could drive to his home to pick him up.

Boyfriend. That word made Fury smile. His whole relationship with Tony made him smile, to be honest.

Tony heard his phone buzz and reached over, reading the text. He couldn't help but smile a wide smile. "I've been packed and ready since I got home last night after you told me what to bring..." he texted back.

"I'll come and pick you up," Fury responded. "I thought we could have breakfast together."

"Sounds good. I'll await your arrival." Tony smiled as he sent the last text.

Fury sent an acknowledgement and then, not long after, he was in his car and driving to Tony's home. He parked outside, Goose in her carrier, and got out of the vehicle. He then walked up to the front door and knocked.

Tony opened the door nearly immediately, his own bag in his hand. "This is going to be great!" he enthused, as he locked his door, then carried his bag to the car and put it in the trunk.

Fury smiled and stood close to Tony as the younger man put his bag in the car. "It is," he agreed. "I never used to look forward to vacations before."

Tony smiled. "I'm glad you can look forward to this one," he said softly, impulsively leaning in and kissing Fury on the cheek before turning to get into the car.

"It's because I get to spend this vacation with you," Fury said, honestly and sincerely, as he got into the car. He waited for Tony to get settled, making sure Goose was comfortable, and then began driving.

"I feel the same..." Tony admitted. "I... I've been having trouble adjusting since... You know. You've helped me so much."

"I'm glad," Fury said honestly. "I would do anything to help you. Anything that's withn my power." And considering his position...he had a lot of that.

"I believe you..." Tony said quietly. "If there is anything you could do, I know you'd help me." Of course, that was assuming Fury could help.

"Of course." Fury freed one hand from the steering wheel and reached out to gently grasp Tony's hand, squeezing it gently. "What are you in the mood to have for breakfast?"

"I know it isn't the healthiest, but ooey gooey cinnamon rolls with coffee..." Tony said, with a laugh. He held Fury's hand tightly.

"We can do that." Fury chuckled softly. He squeezed Tony's hand as he drove in the direction of the cafe that had exactly what Tony had asked for.

"You will discover I have a big sweet tooth." Tiny grinned.

"I believe I've already learned that about you." Fury grinned back.

"You've been paying attention," Tony grinned.

"I will always pay attention to you." Fury parked outside the cafe, so they could go in and get some breakfast.

Tony got out of the car and moved around to stand next to Fury. "Well hopefully, you only see things you like." His grin was crooked.

"I can tell you that's definitely been the case so far." Fury leaned over to kiss Tony's cheek.

Tony's smile turned brighter and he blushed. He was afraid that wouldn't always be the case...knew it wouldn't...but to hear Fury voice it, felt very good anyway. He followed the older man into the cafe.

Once they were in the cafe, Fury picked a table where he could put his back to the wall and see anyone who came in...force of habit, rather than not relaxing. He then picked up one of the menus to look through it.

Tony sat with his back to the door, trusting Fury would watch for both of them. He picked up the menu as well, perusing it. "Would it be mannerless and gauche to admit I'd like a cheeseburger?" he whispered to Fury.

"We're on vacation. Have whatever you'd like." Fury smiled at Tony.

Tony grinned again, happy he wouldn't be questioned about his food choices. When the waiter took his order, he did order a cheeseburger. And a rum and coke. He knew he likely had a problem with alcohol, but he also had a reputation to maintain. As long as no one looked past the reputation, they wouldn't discover Iron Man. As long as Nick didn't mind him drinking, he saw no reason to try and stop.

Fury didn't comment on Tony ordering a rum and coke so early in the day. It wasn't as if he wasn't unaware of Tony's reputation. He ordered a more sensible breakfast...at least slightly, since he was having pancakes with fresh fruit and syrup, which wasn't the healthiest. But like he'd said. They were on vacation.

"Is that good?" Tony asked curiously. "I haven't had pancakes with fruit since Ana Jarvis made them for me when I was a kid and got chicken pox...."

"It is good," Fury answered. "You can try some of mine, if you'd like to," he offered.

"If you're sure..." Tony hesitantly took a small bite, his eyes widening. "That's good." He sounded surprised.

Fury smiled at the response. "You can have some more, if you'd like," he said.

"I should probably eat my burger before I go eating all your breakfast up. But maybe next time, I'll get that instead..." Tony smiled.

"I think that would be a good idea," Fury agreed, as he continued to eat his breakfast.

Tony nodded, eating his own 'breakfast'. They didn't rush, taking their time to talk while eating. It wasn't anything life altering, but Tony still felt closer to Fury at the end of it when they were paying. He walked as close as it was possible to walk without tripping the other man as they returned to the car.

"Do you want to feed Goose?" Fury asked with a smile, as they reached the car. He hadn't forgotten about their third member.

"Yes!" Tony grinned, putting the egg and sausages he'd bought onto the backseat for the cat. "She can eat that, can't she?"

"She can eat anything." Fury's voice was a little wry, remembering how Goose had consumed the Kree soldiers.

"Really?" Tony asked, with skeptical glee. "Last girl I dated was adamant her cat could only have a specialized diet. She broke up with me because I slipped it some tuna. It wasn't even canned tuna.... She nearly had a meltdown when it caught a mouse and was eating it, so I guess I could have seen it coming..." He laughed.

"You'll find that Goose will eat anything. Even humanoids, if it comes to that." Fury glanced towards the cat, who was sitting peacefully in her carrier. So far, she hadn't shown that to Tony...but he figured it was only a matter of time before she showed she wasn't an ordinary cat.

"Wait... What?" Tony turned wide eyes on Fury, then onto Goose.

Fury smiled slightly. "She's actually not an ordinary cat," he commented.

"Did she get Gamma radiation?" he asked uncertainly, Bruce Banner and what happened to him springing to mind.

"No." Fury glanced around, making sure there was no one around who would be likely to listen to them. "She's an alien species known as flerkin. They are very similar to cats here on Earth, but there are a couple of major differences."

Tony's eyes widened further and he smiled at Goose. "She's an alien?' he whispered. "That's so cool...."

Goose gave a tiny little meow and daintily ate the food she'd been given, before yawning and curling up, closing her eyes.

Grinning, Tony took the empty container and threw it in a nearby trashcan. He then got into the passenger seat so they could continue to their destination. Once in the car where no one else could hear, he began to pepper Fury with questions about aliens, where Goose came from, how did Fury meet her, did he know any other aliens, and had he been into space. His inquisitiveness was endless.

Fury didn't hesitate in answering the questions, telling Tony about the Skrull...and about how he was trying to find a home for them. Unfortunately, that wasn't proving to yield many results. He did also tell Tony everything he knew about flerkins...which wasn't a whole lot, even though one had adopted him.

Tony listened closely, seemingly enraptured; though deep inside, he was beginning to feel anxiety. If these Kree ever decided to return and take revenge of Earth, what could be done to stop them? "I knew your job was important, but...wow..." he breathed out.

"That's only one part of it," Fury said. "But yes. Protecting the Earth from those kinds of threats is one of my responsibilities."

"I'm beginning to realize all the times you've spent with me, I should be grateful you found the time..." Tony smiled crookedly.

"You're worth spending time with," Fury said seriously. "I would always find the time."

Tony felt warmth fill him at the words and another stab of guilt speared through him at the fact he knew he was making the other man's life difficult because of his alter identity. "I feel really lucky myself..." he said softly.

"So do I," Fury said honestly. "I feel lucky that you've agreed to date me...and now to go on vacation with me." He leaned over to gently squeeze Tony's hand. "I know you're sharing more of yourself with me than you have with anyone else."

"It's easy to share with you. I trust you not to use the information against me..." And that was the truth. He wished he could share his alter identity with Fury. Unfortunately, that would ruin everything. He couldn't see how the older man would ever trust him again if that truth came out.

Fury nodded. "I trust you too." Which was a big thing for him. He didn't trust that many people. He couldn't afford to, in his position. But Tony was on that list.

Tony swallowed hard at that. Somehow, he kept his smile firmly in place, but he was feeling extremely guilty by this point and beginning to question his choices in dealing with Obie. "So... How long till we get there?" He changed the subject and hoped Fury thought his tight voice was from awkward embarrassment at the indirect compliment of his trustworthiness. Not too many trusted him, after all. Given what he was doing, they were probably right.

"A few hours," Fury answered. "If we include toilet breaks, we'll be there easily by lunch time."

"So, we'll have the afternoon and evening to explore?" Tony grinned.

"Exactly," Fury replied, smiling.

"Looking forward to it." Tony leaned back into his seat, watching the scenery go by.

***

As Fury had promised, they reached the location by lunch time. It was a small summer cottage, somewhere they could spend time with just two of them...but close enough to the beach and hiking trails that they could easily get to.

Tony had put his bag on the bed he'd been given. He and Fury hadn't taken the next step of their relationship, neither of them seemingly in a hurry to go beyond innocent kissing. Tony was grateful for that, in a way. He genuinely liked Fury and didn't want to mess up what they had. His reputation, while unfair in a lot of ways, wasn't completely wrong either. He hoped that by not jumping straight to sex and doing things differently with Fury, maybe what they had wouldn't completely implode, or explode, or just end in the worse, most nasty way possible. Like all his past relationships.

There was also the fact that if (when) Nick found out the truth, he might not completely hate or despise Tony if they hadn't taken that step yet. As much as Tony wanted to make love to the older man, until he could retire Iron Man, it was just too dangerous.

He would worry about that later, though. He wasn't taking another run as Iron Man for another three days. He'd give himself that time to just enjoy being with the man he was falling in love with.

Fury quickly and efficiently unpacked his bag and made sure Goose was settled with water and some food. Then, he went to join Tony. "What would you like to do first?" he asked.

"I'd like to explore the area... If that's okay? I... I'm not real big on swimming, to be honest..." He rubbed the back of his head uncertainly. Having undergone the torture he had in the cave, he tended to avoid anything where his head might go under water. Plus, he never took off his shirt anymore, not wanting anyone to see the battery that kept him alive. Though he trusted Fury enough he'd let him know. He probably should let him know.

"How... How much do you know about what happened to me?" he asked quietly. "I know I haven't really talked about it."

"I don't know a lot," Fury admitted. "I wouldn't have pried into your history without a very good reason...and dating you isn't a good enough reason to invade your privacy." He wanted to build trust, after all.

Tony nodded, swallowing before continuing. "One of the methods they tortured me with was pushing my head under water repeatedly. That was... terrifying. I wasn't strong enough to fight one of them, let alone the two or three they usually had hold me in place. I thought for sure, one time they would just forget how long I'd been under and they'd keep me there one second too long..." He shivered slightly, before taking a deep breath. "It was made doubly terrifying because, even if they didn't forget and hold me under too long, there was always the chance they'd electrocute me. Because of... Because..." Giving up trying to voice the words, Tony just pulled off his shirt, exposing his chest, and the battery, to Fury's gaze. "The original was actually connected to a car battery by cables. I...tinkered a bit. This one can get wet without risk, but.... I just don't want anyone else to see. Even if the thought of being immersed in water doesn't creep me out."

Fury's eye widened, though it was obviously with surprise rather than horror or disgust. He moved closer to Tony and placed a hand on the younger man's chest...not touching the battery. "I'm sorry," he said quietly. "I'm sorry you went through all that. It's a wonder you're still managing to survive, let alone thrive." Rubbing gently, he asked, "Have you seen a therapist at all? If not, I think you should look into it. There are some working for SHIELD who I would trust."

Tony swallowed, his eyes focused on the hand that gently rubbed, leaning into the touch without thinking. "I haven't. I... I didn't know who to contact and after everything that happened when I finally got home, I couldn't trust anyone Obie recommended," he whispered.

"Do you think you'd be able to trust someone I recommended?" Fury moved closer to Tony, putting a little bit more pressure behind the rubbing, noticing the way the other man leaned into it.

Tony nodded. "Uh huh... I trust you... Trust your judgement..." he said, ignoring that he had been lying to the older man and would likely shake Fury's trust in his own judgement, if that was discovered.

"We don't have to go anywhere near the water," Fury promised. "We can do some hiking. Cook together. This vacation is about spending time with each other. You don't need to do anything that upsets you or makes you feel uncomfortable."

Tony smiled at that. "We could wade or walk on the beach. Eventually, I'm hoping my fear of water recedes. Maybe you can help with that..." he said softly.

"I would help you with everything." Fury leaned in and tenderly kissed Tony. "We can take it as slow as you need to."

Tony returned the kiss before smiling at Nick. "Let's walk...."

Fury nodded and took a step back, reaching out to take Tony's hand.

Tony took Fury's hand, letting the older man lead him.

****

They had had a wonderful afternoon, walking around. They'd had a late lunch at the resort's restaurant, then spent a lovely evening walking on the beach, watching for dolphins in the distance.

The longer they spent together, the more Tony realized how special this relationship was, how much he loved Nick Fury... And how guilty he felt about everything he'd been doing behind the other man's back. He wanted his alter life to be finished... Sooner than later. He needed to end his vengeance quest so he could move forward with his life.

"What do you want to do about dinner?" Fury asked as they left the beach, still holding hands. "I can cook us something, if you'd like. Or we can return to the restaurant."

"Let's go to the cabin. I can watch you cook, since I'm not great in the kitchen.” Tony smiled.

Fury smiled. "That would be good," he agreed. "I would enjoy your company in the kitchen."

Tony had followed him into the kitchen and helped as much as he was able (or allowed). They'd had an enjoyable dinner. During the dinner, Tony had made his decision. He would finish his mission to ruin Obadiah Stane that night and retire Iron Man. If all went well, he could focus on Nick from then on. To that end, while Nick was setting up a movie for them to watch, he'd got a sleeping pill that he'd slipped into the glass of wine he brought Nick. As soon as his boyfriend was asleep, he'd take care of his unfinished business.

Once the movie was set up, Fury sat down on the couch and reached an arm out to invite Tony to sit next to him. "I'm glad we can have this time together," he said softly. "Thank you for coming with me."

"I'm glad too... And hope there are more times we can spend together." Tony smiled, settling close.

Fury wrapped his arm around Tony's shoulders and picked up the wine with his other hand, beginning to drink, as the movie began playing.

Tony snuggled close, hoping this wasn't the last time he'd be allowed or able to do so.

It wasn't long into the movie that the sleeping pill began to take hold. Fury tried to keep his eye open...tried not to slip into sleep...but the more he fought it, the harder it grew. Eventually, he lost the battle to keep awake and his eye closed as the sleeping pill took full effect.

Tony waited until he was certain Nick was asleep, then carefully stood, placing a blanket over the older man. "Keep watch over him, Goose," he whispered, before getting his armor out of his suitcase and putting it on, carefully sneaking out and flying away to destroy his hopefully last target.

Goose had watched Tony collecting his armour and leaving. Then, she padded over to the couch and jumped up onto Fury. Walking across the man's chest, she began to bat at his face with her paw, meowing in high, shrill tones.

***

Tony had destroyed the warehouse with a vengeance, making sure it would never be able to be used again. He also made sure every bit of evidence against Obadiah's treachery was easily found. It still took several hours, though, even if he moved quickly. When he finally flew back to the cabin and snuck in, it was well after midnight. He expected Fury to be asleep on the couch beside Goose, so attempted to sneak in through the bedroom window.

Fury was groggy, but thanks to Goose and a resistance to the type of sleeping pills Tony had used, he was awake, on the couch with a hand on his head while Goose kept watch over him.

At the sound of someone coming in through the window in the bedroom, Goose quickly leaped down from the couch and headed towards the bedroom. She didn't waste any time, tentacles coming from her mouth and wrapping around Tony.

Fury was fast on the flerkin's heels...but still got there after Goose had already wrapped her tentacles around Tony.

Tony nearly shrieked as, just when he put feet onto the floor of the bedroom and was straightening up, the Flerkin he'd spied out of the corner of his eye suddenly sprouted tentacles and trapped him. He panicked, uncertain if she was about to eat him, and without even thinking twice released the emergency locks on the armor allowing it to fall in pieces onto the floor, at least the pieces that weren't being gripped by Goose.

"No! Goose! It's me!" he yelped, helpless to stop her if she ignored him.

Fury had followed Goose in, so he saw as the Iron Man armour drop from Tony's body. "You're Iron Man." It was a statement, not a question. The evidence in front of his eyes was unmistakeable.

Goose didn't loosen her tentacles, but she made no move to try and eat Tony, or further attack him. Instead, she stayed in place...turning her head towards Fury almost inquisitively. Like she was waiting for him to tell her she could release Tony.

Tony's eyes darted to Fury and he turned scarlet in shame. He'd hoped that Nick would never learn the truth, though he knew the chances were very high. It was why this was supposed to have been his last trip; he didn't want to keep hiding and lying to the man he'd begun to love.

"Nick..." he started, but realized he didn't have a clue what to say. How could he make his actions seem less wrong than they were? Even if he believed Obadiah had it coming to him, Fury hadn't deserved the lies. And he knew it would look like he'd used the older man from anyone's perspective other than his own. How could he ever hope to make that right?

"You've been lying to me from the start." Fury's voice was very quiet. He didn't allow a hint of the hurt he was feeling, or the betrayal, to come through in his tone. Instead, he asked, "Was this planned from the start?" Tony had drugged him. As soon as Fury had woken, he'd realised it couldn't be anything else.

"The warehouse I hit tonight was my end goal... I... decided to fast forward my time table and skip some of the others..." Tony's voice was soft, guilt filled. "Lying to you wasn't really a plan. I was already hitting the warehouses and plants when you came that day to talk to me. And... I never planned to be attracted to you. Never planned to like you. Never planned to fall in love with you...."

Tony looked at the ground and swallowed, finding it difficult to face Nick. "When I did... I realized... when you found out the truth, you'd never trust me again. Any feelings you had would probably cool if you didn't despise me... and I didn't want to have that happen. So I did my best to keep you from finding out and then you asked me to come with you... and I knew it was playing with fire... saying yes... because it made my keeping secrets even worse, especially if I kept doing the Iron Man stuff... but I had to at least ruin Obadiah, even if I didn't dismantle everything like I originally planned... and then I thought. Just do the last job that will ruin Obie and then stop. Don't do it anymore. Then I wouldn't have to hide things or lie.  The only problem was if you caught me, the whole reason for stopping would be... it would be over... so... I... I..." he couldn't bring himself to admit out loud that he'd drugged the man he claimed to love. How had he ever become so screwed up in his head where he thought that was a good idea? He deserved Nick to not trust him and despise him.

"You drugged me," Fury said quietly. "I have some resistance to sleeping pills, but I still would have been more groggy when you came in if Goose hadn't woken me up. She was trying from the moment you left, I believe." He glanced at the flerkin, then back at Tony. "I can understand you not telling me the truth at the start. But not now, when our relationship formed to the point that we came on vacation together."

"I... I was scared..." Tony whispered. "All my life, people expected things from me, expected me to be a certain way, expected me to do certain things... never be myself. But you saw through all that. You saw me and liked me anyway. I was so afraid of messing that up... of ruining things with you... I did the very thing guaranteed to make you hate me...." He blinked back tears.

"I don't hate you." Fury shook his head, not entirely sure he wasn't being a fool in this situation. "But you did break my trust. This isn't something we can just brush off like it means nothing."

Tony let out an unhappy laugh. "I don't expect you to. Once I'm arrested... go to trial... you should stay far away from me. I don't want your career... your life... ruined because I was an egotistical fool who decided revenge wasn't a bad idea."

Fury looked away, deep in thought. He began speaking after a few moments. "I might be acting like a fool, but I'm not going to turn you in. You didn't go about this in the right way at all...but I don't think I can say what happend was exactly wrong. And I saw the reports," he added. "I know you attempted to make sure innocent people weren't caught in the crossfire."

"Thank you for noticing that. The news never noticed. I never wanted to kill anyone or make innocent people suffer..." Tony whispered, before clearing his throat. "I hurt you, though. I don't deserve your protection."

"You did hurt me," Fury agreed. "I have thick skin...but not so much when it comes to someone I love. But I'm not going to turn you in, or arrest you. No matter what's happened, you don't deserve to be locked up. And besides, since it was me you affected...I think I should be the one who decides how that's dealt with."

Tony swallowed hard. "That's fair. Do you know how you want to... to...?" He swallowed again. If he wasn't arrested and Fury didn't turn him in, he wasn't sure how he would be punished.

"Like I said. My feelings about you haven't changed," Fury said. "So what I'm proposing is a punishment about as personal as I can make it. A spanking."

"Well... that... uh... beats being ignored for several months..." he said uncertainly. He squirmed slightly and looked toward Goose, as the Flerkin hadn't released him yet.

"I wouldn't do that," Fury replied. "That's something I would never do. No matter what happens." He also looked towards the flerkin. "He's not going to try and run, Goose."

The flerkin gave a tiny little meow and released Tony, the tentacles returning to inside her.

Tony visibly relaxed once he was released. "Thanks, girl. You did a good job protecting him... even from me," he said, with a crooked smile. The remainder of the armor fell to the ground without Goose's tentacles to hold it in place, leaving Tony in a thin layer of underclothing, just thick enough to prevent chafing, but thin enough to remain cool.

Goose gave another meow, as if in acknowledgement.

Fury moved over to Tony and reached out, taking the other man's hand.

"I'm sorry..." Tony took Fury's hand and gave the older man a sorrowfully apologetic and repentant look. "I know I made the wrong decisions all around. I just... didn't want to lose you. I should have been honest...."

"It's always better to be honest with me," Fury said quietly. He led Tony into the main room and then took a seat on the couch, gently drawing the other man forward and across his lap.

"Yessir... I knew that. I shouldn't have let my fear lead me." Tony reached down to hold Fury's ankle. He was dreading what was about to occur, but he dreaded not accepting it more. He felt so guilty.

Fury wrapped his arm around Tony's waist, drawing the other man closer to him, and proceeded to tug Tony's underwear down. Then, he lifted his hand and brought it down in the first firm smack that he then repeated.

Tony quivered as he was bared and tightened his grip on Fury's ankle. "Sucks that the first time you touch my ass, it's to smack it because I was an idiot behaving badly..." he muttered sadly. His voice sounded tight. He was already fighting tears.

"It might be the first time...but it won't be the only time." Fury continued swatting even as he spoke, delivering the firm smacks from the crest of Tony's backside down to mid-thigh before he started over from the top.

"That makes me happy..." Tony gasped out, before continuing, in a pained voice, "Somehow get the idea this won't be the only time I get spanked either. I tend to be impetuous. I'll frustrate you..." He whimpered. He'd started squirming by this point. He was very obviously not fighting, though.

"You won't frustrate me," Fury replied. "Though if it's necessary, I will spank you again." He began a third circuit of swats, going a bit harder and faster. At the same time, he gently pulled Tony closer against his stomach.

"If .. if it's needed, I trust you to take care of me..." Tony choked out, before beginning to vocally cry.

Fury completed one final circuit of smacks, finishing with a final few to Tony's sit spots and thighs, before he stopped. He moved Tony into his arms, on his lap, and cuddled the other man tightly.

Tony had been preparing himself for the moment the spanking ended and Nick pulled away to leave him to self-soothe. Being pulled closer, into the other man's arms, shocked him into immobility for a second... and then he broke. Clinging onto Nick as if afraid the older man would disappear and pressing as close as it was humanly possible, Tony sobbed, babbling out apologies and confessions of every wrong thing he'd done since Nick met him; and even from before he met him.

He'd promised himself, while over Nick's knee, there would be no more secrets or lies and he intended to begin keeping that promise immediately. If it was also a test of Nick's resolve to stay and not leave him, or to not have him arrested... well, he'd been burned before. He felt Nick would understand. So he confessed and apologized and cried. And waited to see what Nick would do with his confessions. Most of them were very tame, almost childishly so. But several were things that, if Nick could be believed, would earn him more spankings. Would Nick keep his word and not leave him? Would he let the crimes go (at least if they occurred before Nick entered his life)? Or would he spank Tony more? Be consistent, even if it was painful? Make sure Tony knew how he'd messed up and help him know what he should have done instead?

So many times, Tony had done questionable things; he knew they were questionable, because the people involved would tell him how wrong and screwed up he was and then would ignore him until they weren't angry anymore, or would leave entirely. But no one ever explained how he was wrong. Why he was wrong. And nine times out of ten, everything worked out for the better, so he couldn't see why it was wrong. If Nick stayed and didn't just dump his ass like he deserved... If Nick stayed and believed all those things were wrong too, just like all the people who had berated him... and if Nick held him accountable, maybe Nick would also help him understand.

"You're tying yourself to a man-child..." Tony cried softly, very self-aware and knowing one of his worse character flaws.

Fury held Tony close and tight, stroking his hands over Tony's back, as he listened without comment to the entire confession. Most of it didn't surprise him. He'd already been aware of Tony's reputation long before they'd started dating...and considering his actions as Iron Man, he wasn't surprised how much was technically skirting around the law, even if Tony hadn't been outright breaking it...until now, of course.

"I love you," Fury said softly, in response to Tony's comment. "You've made choices that aren't the best one, but you're not a bad person. I'm not going to walk away from you. I'm not going to give up on this relationship. And I'm not going to give up on you. That's going  to be the case even if you make mistakes from now on."

Tony shivered, sniffling, pressing closer. "Even if I make you mad?" he whispered. Nick had a bit of a reputation, too, of living up to his name. Though he'd been extremely patient and gentle with Tony, Tony always made people angry eventually. "If I do something bad again?" Nick hadn't said anything about what he'd confessed to, but was that because it wasn't as bad as he thought, or because Nick didn't feel he had a right to say anything about his past, or because it didn't matter?

"I won't be mad at you," Fury said. "I might be disappointed...in your behaviour, not you...but you won't make me mad." Tightening his arms around Tony, he continued, "If you do anything you shouldn't, then it'll earn you another trip over my knee. I'm not going to punish you for what you did before we met each other, but going forward, any disobedience, or endangering yourself, or lying, will get you spanked."

Tony relaxed at those words. "Yessir. I'd deserve it," he whispered. "I'm... I'm glad you found out. It felt so wrong lying and hiding from you. I was scared you wouldn't want me anymore, but it felt so wrong..." he admitted.

"I would always want you," Fury replied. "But that feeling should help you in the future. If something feels wrong, then that's a good sign that it's something you shouldn't be doing." Kissing Tony's forehead, he added, "And anything you're not sure about, I'll help you figure out."

Tony swallowed and nodded. "Yessir... if I don't know, I'll ask you... you can help me do better...."

"Of course," Fury replied, his voice gentle and reassuring. "I'll help you; teach you and train you if needed." Stroking Tony's hair, he continued, "You can actually do a lot of good as Iron Man. You don't need to give that up, if you don't want to."

"People are afraid of Iron Man. The news made sure of that..." Tony whispered sadly. He continued to snuggle. "Maybe if Iron Man surrendered to you in a very public way... if it was clear you were in charge... they wouldn't be...."

"It's something we could consider," Fury agreed. "But there are also ways of changing public opinion. We can consider what might be the best course of action after what you did tonight comes to light."

"Do you want me to tell you? Before it is on the news?" Tony asked quietly.

Fury nodded. "The more I know, the easier it will be to figure out how to turn public opinion."

Tony began to explain what he did in exact detail... as well as explaining how he'd arranged for all the information Obadiah had kept under wraps to be exposed to the world. It would enable organizations like SHIELD to take down a lot of bad guys, as well as (hopefully) enable Tony to get Stark Industries under more ethical leadership. He didn't think it would be him, per se, but at least someone who would do things that would help people and not harm those who were supposed to be helped.

Fury listened intently to Tony's explanation, not interrupting. Once the explanation had finished, he said quietly, "Having all of that exposed is something I can work with. In fact, I might be able to put a spin on it that Iron Man's actions have been sanctioned by SHIELD. It would put the responsibility on me and the public will be less likely to think you might be a danger to them."

Tony looked hopeful at that. "Then you really would be in charge of me...officially. I could work for you...."

"I already made the offer," Fury said. "It's still on the table."

"It was hard to believe it could happen," Tony admitted. "It felt like I had messed up too badly... even you couldn't save the situation. But... I was wrong "

"It's not possible to mess up so badly that nothing can be fixed," Fury said. "Not if you're willing and prepared to work for it."

"I want to. I want to do things the right way... I want to be your man..." Tony said softly.

"I believe you. And I'll help you do things the right way." Fury kissed him gently.

Tony returned the kiss gratefully. "I love you..." he whispered against Fury's lips. "You've saved my life, I think... Until you showed up, all I had to live for was revenge. Thank you for saving me."

"I love you. So much." Gently stroking Tony's hair, Fury murmured, "I'm glad you have something to live for now. I'm going to make sure you continue to have that."

Tony snuggled closer, his grip less desperate, though it was still tight. He was feeling safe. Secure. Unafraid. Fury had found out the truth and not left him. Was planning to make things so that he would be protected from the consequences of his own actions and give him a second chance to do things the right way. It was humbling and mind blowing at the same time. He didn't know how to react exactly, but he felt emotionally closer to the older man and needier.

Without giving it a second thought, he squirmed just enough to let his underwear fall to the ground, toeing off his socks. The only barrier between them now was Nick's clothing and the thin undershirt Tony wore. He felt a strong need to be completely vulnerable to Nick and give Nick complete control over him physically to represent the control Nick had over his freedom, actions... life.

Responding to Tony shifting to remove his underwear, Fury removed Tony's undershirt, leaving the other man completely naked...completely vulnerable. He let his hands rub gently over the other man's bare back, touching and exploring...gently squeezing...the bare skin.

Sighing softly, Tony continued pressing close, content to let Fury direct how fast they moved. He did nuzzle the older man's neck with affection. "Thank you for not giving me what I deserved. You... you really have saved me, I think..." he whispered.

"I love you," Fury murmured. "And you don't deserve to be left. Or to be arrested. I'm here with you...and I won't ever leave," he promised, pressing a kiss to Tony's neck.

"I love you too. I... I'm so happy I didn't ruin everything... that you forgive me and still want me..." Tony began to cry again.

"Tony. You didn't ruin anything." Fury tightened his embrace around the younger man. "And I would forgive you for anything. Nothing is so bad we can't work through it together. I promise."

"Don't deserve you... love you so much..." Tony sniffled, calming down slowly. "Wanna... wanna be yours forever..." he admitted.

"Do you want us to come up with a symbol? Some kind of sign that you're mine and that we belong together?" Fury asked. Wedding rings were a possibility, of course...but they seemed quite tame compared to what their relationship was.

Tony leaned back and smiled. "It won't cause problems for you? I'm pretty visible in society..." he added. "I don't want to put you in jeopardy."

"I don't want to hide what we are to each other," Fury replied. "Having it be visible wouldn't cause me any trouble."

"A tattoo? Or a charm I can wear on my wrist or around my neck?" Tony offered. "So, something that is representing you...."

"A tattoo is more permanent than a charm," Fury commented. "I can go either way...but I don't want you to have something on your body you might regret later."

"Maybe a charm... and then later, if we find something that fits that we both like... a tattoo?" Tony bit his lip. He wanted permanent, but he also knew with his track record of chasing people away, that if something happened and Nick left, it would hurt worse seeing a constant reminder. As much as he was trying to believe Nick wouldn't leave, it was hard to overcome his insecurities.

Fury nodded. "And then we don't have to rush into a permanent marking that might not be what we ultimately both want. I think a permanent mark should be something that both of us are completely on board with."

Tony nodded. "Okay. What now?" he asked quietly.

"We still have the rest of our vacation to enjoy together," Fury said. "Once we return home, I'll make sure people are aware that Iron Man's actions were sanctioned by SHIELD...give you protection and official backing in the public eye.”

Tony snuggled, kissing Nick's chin. "And then I will officially be following your orders..." He smiled.

Fury kissed his cheek. "You'll belong to me. Officially," he said.

"I like that..." Tony admitted. "Belong to you... obey you? Even when I'm not Iron Man?" His voice was soft and hesitant. He didn't want to assume.

"Even outside of being Iron Man," Fury agreed. "I want that kind of relationship with you."

"I... I need that," Tony admitted. "I already feel more secure and... stable... since you spanked me. Can't help thinking it will be so much better for me when I need your permission before doing the potentially foolish things I'm known for."

"That's what we'll do, then," Fury decided easily. "I'll be in charge of you. Give you directions. And if you do something naughty, then we'll take care of that too." He gently patted Tony's backside.

Tony shivered and whimpered slightly, pressing closer to Fury. "Is there something wrong with me that knowing I'll be spanked for being naughty makes me feel good?"

"There's nothing wrong with you," Fury replied. "I suspect that being given boundaries and rules is something you've needed for a long time. And subconsciously, you know that. That's why it feels good."

"You're right. I've known I needed them. I... just couldn't trust anyone to give them to me and not use me..." Tony sighed.

"But you trust me." It was a statement, not a question.

"With all of me..." Tony affirmed.

"I love you." Fury kissed him tenderly.

Tony returned the kiss eagerly, pouring all his own love into his response. He opened up for the kiss, offering everything to Nick.

Fury pressed deeper into the kiss, one hand sliding round to cup the back of Tony's head. His other arm wrapped more firmly around Tony's waist, pulling him close enough that their bodies could press together.

Tony whimpered softly, licking Fury's lower lip in invitation, pressing close enough the older man would feel his arousal.

Fury's own arousal was obvious, as he gently pushed his tongue into Tony's mouth. He lightly nipped at the other man's lips, sliding his hand down the back of Tony's head to grip the nape of his neck.

Tony let out an appreciative groan, letting his own hands rest gently against Fury's chest. His own tongue gently danced against the older man's.

Fury slid his other hand down Tony's spine, pressing gently with his knuckles even as he continued to kiss. A few moments into the kiss, he was gently tugging Tony down onto the couch with him.

Tony quivered at feeling knuckles along the bare skin of his spine. He followed Fury down onto the sofa, almost on top of the older man.

Fury pulled away from the kiss, but that was only so that he could begin to kiss other parts of Tony's body...following lips with his hands and nails, squeezing or lightly scratching.

"Feels good, Sir..." Tony moaned softly, his body relaxing and becoming easier for Fury to control and claim. His arousal had grown fully by this point, precum pooling at his tip. He held on, wanting Fury in control of that too.

"Good. I'm glad. You deserve to feel good." Fury reached down to grasp hold of Tony's member, beginning to stroke it firmly.

Tony's eyes widened and he gasped as Fury took hold of him and began stroking confidently, fully in control and showing Tony who owned him. "Yours..." Tony whimpered, quickly on the edge.

"Mine." Fury pressed a kiss against Tony's neck. "Let go. When you're ready," he directed firmly, before closing his teeth around Tony's neck. It wasn't enough to break the skin...but he'd definitely leave a mark behind.

Tony's eyes rolled back and he groaned, immediately releasing for his Dom. He gripped onto Fury's shoulders tightly, but it was only Fury's grip on him that kept him from falling on the floor.

Fury gave a satisfied grunt and tugged Tony closer to him. "Good," he murmured. "You're so good for me."

Tony whined softly, hiding his face against Fury's shoulder. "Wanna be good for you. From now on... don't wanna be naughty... wanna make you so happy...." he whispered, in a shaky voice.

"You are good for me," Fury murmured. "And you do make me happy. I don't see that changing any time soon." He kissed Tony's hair.

"Love you..." Tony whispered, nuzzling Nick's chest.

"I love you." Fury kissed the side of Tony's head, stroking his fingers through his lover's hair. "I think we'd be more comfortable moving through to the bedroom," he commented. The couch wasn't all that comfortable for one person to lay on, let alone two.

Tony nodded, carefully extricating himself and standing so Fury could lead him. He looked down toward Fury's groin hopefully. If his Dom was aroused, maybe he could take some pleasure from Tony before sleeping. Tony wanted to help him feel good; after everything he'd done to stress, worry and hurt Nick, Tony wanted to know he could help make him happy too.

Fury stood up and reached out for Tony's hand. He was aroused, obvious even through his clothing, but he didn't comment on it or suggest anything further than they'd already done. If they didn't do anything else tonight, he'd still be happy.

Tony shifted close to Fury so he could be led into the bedroom. "Do you want to take me?" he asked, in a quiet but hopeful voice.

"Would you like that?" Fury asked. "I don't want to force you into anything."

"I've been wanting it for weeks..." Tony smiled shyly. "It just didn't feel right to ask when I was still sneaking out to do Iron Man stuff behind your back."

Fury smiled at the response and, once they were in the bedroom, he tugged Tony in for a deep, lingering kiss. Then, he began to remove his own clothing.

Tony eagerly returned the kiss, letting his hands rub over every bit of skin he could reach as Fury removed clothing.

Once Fury was as naked as Tony, Fury led the other man towards the bed and settled them both on it, hands beginning to rub gently over Tony's body, kissing and gently nipping the flesh. It didn't take long for his arousal to spike, his member growing rapidly to full hardness.

Tony had begun wriggling and moaning with need very shortly after Fury began his exploration, his own member fully aroused and weeping for his Dom. "Please..." he begged.

"Please what?" Fury obviously enjoyed hearing Tony beg...his own member was beginning to leak pre-cum.

'Take me... please... make me yours inside and out..." Tony whimpered. "Make me feel you even when you aren't in me, so I can't ever forget I belong to you... take me hard and deep enough I walk funny and everyone else can see I belong to you... please...."

Fury gave a quiet grunt of satisfaction. He reached out and opened the drawer, taking out a small bottle of ointment. It wasn't lube, but it would still do the job. He opened it and coated a finger in the ointment, pressing it against Tony's entrance before slowly pushing it inside.

Tony quivered from the effort to hold still, though every atom of him wanted to push back into the penetrating digit to get it inside as deep as possible. He didn't, though. Fury was in control of him now, so he would wait for permission to move. He couldn't help but arch his back so his bottom and hole were more easily accessible, though, and he continued begging. "Please, sir... need you deep inside so I can't tell where I end and you begin and every part of me feels you...."

"I'm going to make sure you can't feel anything apart from me." Fury continued to move his finger deep inside, pushing as deep as it woud go, before he added a second finger and continued to slowly widen his lover.

Tony groaned, gasping out, "...Thank you... need that... need to be yours... need to feel I'm yours..." His breathing was ragged and his entrance clenched and unclenched around Fury's fingers.

"You are mine. And you'll feel that," Fury promised. He contiued to move the two fingers inside Tony, widening him...then, finally, he withdrew those fingers. He lubed up his own member. And he pushed slowly inside Tony, grasping the other man's hips.

Tony's groan grew louder as he felt himself stretching around his Dom's thick shaft. "So good..." He quivered, his body clenching and unclenching more quickly, massaging Fury's member and seemingly attempting to tug him deeper. The noises Tony made were unintelligible need and desire. He shifted so that his Dom could easily push in as deep as possible, as hard as possible, as fast or slow as he wanted. Fury was in complete control over what happened and how it would happen.

Grasping Tony's hips firmly, Fury began to thrust deep and hard and fast, angling himself to make sure he could easily hit the other man's prostrate. He was obviously aroused, whispering, "You feel so good surrounding me. Taking everything I give you. You're so good."

Tony let out a tiny, mewling noise at the words, tears springing to his eyes. "Good for you? Wanna be so good for you..." he gasped. He'd reached down to pinch the base of his own member, so he couldn't come until Fury ordered; feeling his prostate pounded relentlessly had sent him to the edge.

"You are so very good for me." Fury's own release was close and he leaned forward to kiss Tony hard and deep. "Let go." He growled the words against Tony's lips, knowing that they were both on the very edge.

Gasping against Fury's lips, Tony let go of his member and released, hard. He soaked the sheets under him, head straining to keep kissing Fury, even if the angle was slightly painful, given his Dom was mounting him from behind. Trying to keep his mouth within kissing range caused a little bit more stretch where his lover was still buried deep and it prolonged his release. His body continued to spasm and shudder around Fury's shaft, tight vibrations surrounding the larger man. When his orgasm finally ebbed, Tony collapsed into the mess he had made, his body lethargic, his bottom still raised in offering so Fury could finish chasing his own release inside him.

Fury's own release came over him at almost the same moment and he let go hard inside Tony, filling the other man up with his release. His fingers gripped even tighter on Tony's hips, hard enough to leave the imprints of his fingers behind. He kissed a bit more firmly and a bit harder, nipping at Tony's lips and grazing the sensitive skin with his teeth.

Tony's breathing was ragged, but he eagerly, if tiredly, returned the kiss. He could feel Fury's release inside him, filling him, and he let out a happy little hum. "Yours..." His tone was full of satisfied belonging.

"Mine." Fury nuzzled Tony for a few moments before he carefully withdrew. "I'll clean us both up. Then I think we need to sleep.”

"Yessir.... do you want me to change the sheets? Or get a towel to cover the mess I made?" Tony blushed and stayed in position for directions.

"It's very late," Fury commented. "I think we can just use a towel to cover up the mess. And then strip the bed in the morning." He left the room, returning with a washcloth to clean them both.

"Okay..." Tony held still while his mate cleaned him; then while Fury cleaned himself, he quickly went and got a towel to place over the wet spot. He was walking exactly like someone who had been taken hard. He couldn't help grinning about it, giving Fury an unrepentant grin.

Fury couldn't help the smile that spread across his face at the sight of Tony walking. "I like looking at that," he commented. "You walking and showing off that you've been so thoroughly claimed."

"I like it too..." Tony said quietly. "Like feeling that you own me when I walk...."

"I'll own you all the time," Fury promised. Once the towel was settled on the bed, he stretched out and held his arms out to Tony.

Tony quickly and eagerly crawled up into Fury's arms. "Things are going to be so much better now..." he whispered, nuzzling against Fury's shoulder and settling down to sleep.

"They are," Fury agreed, wrapping his arms around Tony in a tight hug. He kissed Tony's neck and closed his own eyes, feeling happy and at peace...and hopeful for their future together.

The End
