When Ben fled his uncle, he didn’t slay all of his fellow students. Although not as strong as Kylo Ren in the ways of the Force, Hux is still a Force sensitive and attended the academy with his friend.
Everything went wrong when Ben joined Snoke. He chooses not to kill his father and ultimately joins a path of redemption…but he and his new cousin are viewed with distrust and open suspicion.
