Neither Gabriel or Marcus could have been termed as ‘bad people’. Yes, they made some terrible mistakes, but in Chris’ mind, neither of them deserved to have their lives destroyed due to those mistakes.
Gabriel needs a big brother to take care of him and show him the right way. Marcus doesn’t need the same thing, but he does need to be held accountable.
Chris chooses to be what both of the other men need. A big brother. Someone who believes in the good both men are capable of, even if they can’t see that themselves.
